Trying to quit coffee? Although most of us make New Year's Resolutions, more than half of us give up on them by February first. This year we are helping all of our patients stay on their chosen band wagon and keep at it all year long with some help strategies and advice for some of the most common resolutions.
February's resolution is quitting coffee - quite a poignant one in Melbourne!
Most of us know coffee isn't great for us, whether we like to admit it or not, but lots of us don't know why. Coffee is a diuretic, which means it dehydrates your body with every cup you drink. That means it's very important, if you are going to drink coffee at all, that you have an extra glass of water with it (on top of the 8 glasses we should all be drinking already) Also, coffee releases adrenalin in our bodies - that's the "caffeine hit", which does make us feel good, but is a strain on our adrenal glands and will raise your blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature - our vital health statistics. Not to mention it makes you feel exhausted at the end of the day!
So why don't we all stop? Because it's hard! When you stop drinking coffee, for the first few days we often feel tired in the mornings - sometimes all day, get easily frustrated and get dizzy-spells and headaches. This is all just your adrenal glands finding normal again. Chiropractic care while quitting coffee can greatly lessen these symptoms by nurturing your adrenals and helping your body heal the damage done by prolonged use of caffeine. The water is still up to you!
Good luck to all out coffee quitting friends and I encourage anyone who wants help to kick coffee to give us a call or book in HERE
