What is Chiropractic?
Daniel D. Palmer founded chiropractic in 1895 and its roots can be traced back to Hippocrates, the father of medicine (460-377BC).
Chiropractic is intended to
"promote the total health and integration of the body because it
focuses on the ability of the body to heal itself from the inside out.
(Dr William S. Gandee – Triumph Over Illness: 1998)."
Chiropractic is a system of health-oriented care that stresses the idea of optimal wellness and prevention of disease. It is a drug free and surgery free approach to health.
Your body is constantly repairing and renewing itself. The idea of Chiropractic is that by removing interference to your nervous system, not only can Chiropractic relieve symptoms like back pain, but it also allows your body to achieve better balance, harmony and vitality so you can reach your full health potential.
Many people come to Chiropractors for problems such as low back pain, headaches, neck pain and sciatica etc. Many continue to get care because they experience much more. These ongoing benefits can include fewer colds due to better immune function; more energy; less asthma attacks; less period pain; – a whole range of health improvements.
Why is the nervous system so important?
Your nervous system is your master control system. It is your nerve system that controls and coordinates all the organs, structures, systems and functions of your body. Consisting of your brain, spinal cord and nerves, it is made up of a network of fibres similar to an electrical wiring system. In effect, your spinal cord is your lifeline. It works like a telephone switchboard allowing your brain to talk with the rest of your body.
Why is the spine so important?
The most important function of the spine is that it provides the framework that supports and protects the spinal cord. Between your vertebra (spinal bones) are small openings through which many of your nerves from the brain and spinal cord pass out to the cells, tissues and organs of your body. The spine also gives you something to attach your legs and arms to so you can get around!
