What are subluxations?

Subluxations are spinal misalignments, which interfere with the proper functioning of the nerve system.  They may have the effect of making the messages travelling along the nerve system too loud or too soft, too fast or too slow, or even jumbled up.  It is important to know that just because you don’t feel pain or have any symptoms it doesn’t mean you don’t have subluxations.  This is because it depends how and what nerves are being irritated.  In fact only a small percentage (less than 10%) are feel pain, the rest are running your body.

How do subluxations occur?

Subluxations may be caused by excessive stressors that are part of our every day lives.  This stress may be physical (i.e. slips, falls repetitive movement, sport, accidents, sedentary lifestyle, even the birth process), mental (i.e. stress, anger, grief) or chemical (i.e. bad nutrition, paint fumes, pollution).  Many everyday things can cause subluxations and they may occur everyday in our bodies.  99% of the time the body is able to correct these without us ever knowing about them.  However, the problem is that 1% of the time our body can’t so we need to see a chiropractor regularly.

How do I know whether I need to see a Chiropractor?

Chiropractic is for everyone. As most subluxations have no symptoms everyone should have their spine checked regularly for subluxations. Subluxations can occur as early as the birthing process, so it is advisable to be checked as young as possible.  Remember the earlier they are detected the easier they are to correct.  Waiting for pain before you visit a chiropractor is like waiting for your teeth to rot before you see a dentist, or waiting for your car to break down before you see a mechanic.
